India and the United Arab Emirates signed seven significant agreements on Friday during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s short visit to the Gulf nation, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across energy, defence, technology and infrastructure sectors.

The agreements were signed during the first leg of PM Modi’s five-country international tour before he departed for Europe. Describing the outcomes as important milestones in bilateral relations, the Prime Minister said the agreements would add “further vigour” to the growing India-UAE partnership.

One of the key agreements involved strategic collaboration between Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to strengthen India’s energy security and expand cooperation in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) infrastructure.

Another agreement focused on long-term LPG supply arrangements aimed at enhancing India’s energy stability and ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply in the future.

India and the UAE also signed a framework agreement on Strategic Defence Partnership, which is expected to deepen cooperation in defence manufacturing, military training, maritime security, cyber defence and secure communication technologies.

A major maritime infrastructure project was also proposed at Vadinar in Gujarat to support ship repair activities and strengthen the Make in India initiative. Alongside this, both countries agreed to collaborate on skill development programmes in ship repair and shipbuilding to boost India’s maritime workforce capabilities.

In the technology sector, the two nations agreed to establish an eight Exaflop Super Computer Cluster through collaboration between India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing and UAE-based technology company G42.

The UAE also announced investment commitments worth USD 5 billion across Indian infrastructure projects and financial institutions, further strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

Following the UAE visit, PM Modi is scheduled to continue his tour with visits to Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy as part of his broader diplomatic engagement with Europe.
