Delhi Declares Public Holiday on November 25 for Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th Martyrdom Anniversary

The Delhi government has announced a public holiday on November 25 to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru revered for his supreme sacrifice in defending religious freedom and human rights.

The three-day commemorative programme, held at the Red Fort from November 23 to 25, features a light-and-sound show, a kirtan darbar, cultural performances, and large community gatherings. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate over the weekend.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the holiday would allow citizens to reflect on the Guru’s legacy of courage, sacrifice, and unity. She encouraged families to attend the events and participate in acts of service.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the concluding ceremony on November 25, though his final schedule is still being confirmed. Security has been intensified across the Red Fort area, especially following the November 10 blast, with multiple agencies coordinating surveillance and crowd management for the celebrations.

  • Delhi Metro, DTC buses, autos, taxis, cluster buses will run normally.

✔ Hospitals & Essential Services

  • All emergency medical services, ambulances, water, electricity, sanitation, and helplines will operate uninterrupted.

Meanwhile, the Haryana government has declared November 25 a Restricted Holiday, allowing employees to opt for leave in observance of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom day.
