Tamil actor Abhinay, best known for his memorable performance in the 2002 coming-of-age drama Thulluvadho Ilamai, passed away on Monday at the age of 44 after a prolonged battle with liver disease.
Abhinay had been undergoing treatment for several years and had publicly shared his deteriorating health in recent years, appealing for financial assistance to manage his medical expenses. His body is currently kept at his Chennai residence.
According to reports, representatives from the Nadigar Sangam have stepped in to perform his last rites, as the actor did not have immediate family members to conduct the funeral.
In a viral video earlier, Abhinay had expressed uncertainty about his health, revealing that doctors had given him a year and a half to live. Despite the grim diagnosis, he continued to engage with the film fraternity and fans.
The actor began his film career alongside Dhanush in Thulluvadho Ilamai, directed by Kasthuri Raja. Over the years, he featured in more than 15 films across Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada languages, and also lent his voice for dubbing — notably for Vidyut Jammwal in Thuppakki (2012), directed by AR Murugadoss.
When his health worsened, several industry colleagues extended their support. Dhanush reportedly contributed ₹5 lakh for his medical treatment, while comedian KPY Bala donated ₹1 lakh and publicly appealed for further help on his behalf.
Abhinay’s final public appearance was at a Chennai film press conference a few weeks ago. His death has left fans and peers mourning the loss of a talented and humble artist who fought courageously until the end.
