Actor-entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty’s upscale restaurant chain, Bastian, is making headlines after writer and socialite Shobhaa De claimed that the popular Mumbai outlet earns a staggering ₹2–3 crore per night.

Speaking on Barkha Dutt’s Mojo Story, Shobhaa said she was “astonished” by the kind of wealth circulating in Mumbai’s luxury dining scene.

“One single restaurant in Mumbai has a turnover of ₹2–3 crore a night. On slow nights, it’s ₹2 crore, and on weekends, it’s ₹3 crore. I walked into that restaurant to see it myself because when I heard these numbers, I said this can’t be true,” she shared.

When asked which restaurant she was referring to, Shobhaa confirmed,

“It’s Bastian — the new one. It’s on top, 21,000 square feet. You walk in there and you feel, ‘Where am I?’ You have a 360° view of the city.”

A Night at Bastian: Luxury, Scale, and Exclusivity

According to Shobhaa De, the Bastian outlet in Dadar hosts around 1,400 guests per night in two seatings of 700 each. She described the crowd as “young, wealthy, and unrecognizable”, adding that many arrive in high-end luxury cars such as Lamborghinis and Aston Martins.

“They have a waiting list downstairs. People spend lakhs on premium tequila bottles. Each table spends in the lakhs, and I didn’t recognize a single person. It was surreal,” she said.

The revelation has sparked curiosity about the massive financial scale of Mumbai’s nightlife and fine-dining sector, which continues to thrive despite economic uncertainties.

Shilpa Shetty’s Role in the Restaurant Chain

Shilpa Shetty became a partner in the Bastian brand in 2019, joining hands with restaurateur Ranjit Bindra, who originally founded the chain. She currently holds a 50% stake and co-owns several Bastian outlets across India.

In an earlier conversation with food critic Kunal Vijaykar, Shilpa acknowledged that she is now “one of India’s biggest restaurateurs”, crediting her passion for food and hospitality for the brand’s success.

Legal Trouble Amid Expansion Plans

However, Shilpa and her husband Raj Kundra are currently embroiled in a legal dispute, accused of cheating a Juhu-based businessman of ₹60.48 crore.

The Bombay High Court recently denied their plea to travel abroad, citing the pending case. The couple has been directed to deposit ₹60 crore before seeking permission to expand their restaurant business overseas.

Despite the controversy, Bastian remains one of Mumbai’s most talked-about luxury dining spots — known for its seafood, celebrity clientele, and sky-high bills that match the city’s extravagant lifestyle.
