Veteran Bollywood actor Satish Shah, known for his impeccable comic timing and beloved performances in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, and Main Hoon Na, passed away in Mumbai at the age of 74 on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, Shah suffered from kidney failure and was rushed to Hinduja Hospital, where doctors made attempts to revive him, but he could not be saved. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news, describing it as “a huge loss for the industry,” adding, “Satish Shah was not only a great actor but an even greater human being.”

Just a day before his passing, on October 24, Satish Shah shared a heartfelt message on social media to commemorate the birth anniversary of the late actor Shammi Kapoor.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Happy B’day dearest Shammi ji. You are always around for me.”
The message has since gone viral, with fans calling it a poetic and emotional farewell from one legend to another. Many admirers expressed their grief over the coincidence that Shah’s final post celebrated another stalwart of Indian cinema.


Career of Five Decades and 250 Films

Born on June 25, 1951, in Mumbai, Satish Shah hailed from a Kutchi Gujarati family. He graduated from St. Xavier’s College and trained at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, where his journey as an actor began.

Shah made his debut in Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan (1978) but gained nationwide recognition with his role as Municipal Commissioner D’Mello in the cult classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983). His filmography spans over 250 movies, including memorable roles in Hum Saath Saath Hain, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Om Shanti Om, and Main Hoon Na.

On television, Shah became a household name as Indravadan Sarabhai in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai — a role that remains iconic for its humor and warmth even today.
