The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has officially announced that the Vaikuntha Dwara Darshan of Lord Venkateswara will be held for 10 days starting December 30, 2025, continuing the temple’s long-standing tradition of extended darshan during this auspicious period.
The announcement was made by TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu after a detailed meeting with the Board of Trustees, reaffirming the temple’s commitment to upholding the devotional sentiments of millions of pilgrims who visit Tirumala every year.
“Reducing the duration would have deeply affected devotees’ faith. The 10-day schedule ensures that lakhs of devotees can experience the divine Vaikuntha Dwara Darshan,” Chairman Naidu stated.
🙏 10-Day Darshan Tradition Continues
The TTD confirmed that the 10-day darshan schedule will remain unchanged, allowing devotees from across the country to witness the sacred opening of the Vaikuntha Dwaram (the gate to heaven).
In 2024, more than 7.5 lakh devotees participated in the Vaikuntha Ekadasi festivities, highlighting the event’s deep spiritual and cultural significance.
⚠️ Safety Concerns Addressed
Earlier reports had suggested that the darshan duration might be reduced to two days due to safety concerns after a stampede-like incident in the previous year’s celebrations, which resulted in six deaths and several injuries.
However, after consultations with religious heads and administrative authorities, the TTD decided to maintain the 10-day tradition while ensuring enhanced safety, crowd control, and logistical arrangements.
🕉️ Support from Religious Leaders
Former TTD Chairman and YSRCP leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy had strongly opposed any move to shorten the darshan period. He recalled that the 10-day format was introduced after discussions with 28 Peetadhipatis (Hindu spiritual heads), all of whom endorsed the extended schedule to accommodate more pilgrims.
🎟️ Ticketing and Arrangements
TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal announced that a special committee will soon be formed to finalize the ticket distribution process, both online and offline, to ensure fairness and accessibility.
TTD also assured comprehensive arrangements for security, accommodation, queue management, and pilgrim welfare facilities throughout the festival period.
🏗️ Development Projects Approved
During the same board meeting, TTD approved several major projects, including:
- Construction of a Lord Venkateswara Temple in Chennai at a cost of ₹14 crore, funded through donations.
- Sanction of Brahmotsavam honorariums for temple staff.
- Pilgrim facility upgrades at Kanipakam, Ontimitta, Kadapa, and Karimnagar temples.
- Recommendation for an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) inquiry into alleged irregularities in temple garment procurement.
🌺 Faith and Devotion at the Core
Vaikuntha Ekadasi, considered one of the most sacred days in the Hindu calendar, symbolizes the opening of the gates of Vaikuntha (heaven). Devotees believe that those who have darshan of Lord Venkateswara during this period receive divine blessings and liberation.
With the TTD reaffirming the 10-day Vaikuntha Dwara Darshan, the temple body continues to uphold Tirumala’s rich legacy of devotion, inclusivity, and spiritual discipline.
