US President Donald Trump has declared that he will not approve any new legislation until Congress passes the Save America Act, describing the proposed bill as a key priority that must be addressed immediately.
In a message posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump called on lawmakers to move the legislation to the top of the congressional agenda. He also praised conservative activist Scott Pressler for advocating strong tactics in the Senate to ensure the bill’s passage.
Trump suggested that supporters of the measure could use a filibuster or a “talking filibuster” strategy if necessary to push the legislation forward.
“Great job by Scott Pressler talking about using the filibuster in order to pass the Save America Act. It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else and must go to the front of the line,” Trump wrote.
Warning to Lawmakers
The president also issued a clear warning to Congress, stating that he would refuse to sign other bills until the Save America Act becomes law.
“I will not sign other bills until this is passed, and not the watered-down version,” Trump said, urging lawmakers to pursue the strongest possible form of the legislation.
Key Provisions Highlighted
Trump said the proposed bill should introduce stricter election rules, including requirements for voter identification and proof of citizenship during the voting process.
He also reiterated his support for tighter restrictions on mail-in ballots, arguing they should be limited to specific circumstances such as military service, illness, disability or travel.
Beyond election-related provisions, Trump mentioned additional policy issues that have become central to conservative political debates in the United States.
Political Debate Around the Bill
Supporters of the Save America Act say the legislation is intended to strengthen election security and restore public confidence in the voting process.
However, the proposal is expected to face significant debate in Congress, where lawmakers remain divided over voting laws and broader policy issues linked to elections and civil rights.
Trump’s latest remarks signal that the administration intends to prioritise the bill as a major legislative goal in the coming months.
