Tamil Nadu: LPG Truck Overturns, Triggers Massive Explosions in Ariyalur District

Share:

A major fire incident was reported in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur district on Monday after a truck carrying domestic LPG cylinders overturned, triggering multiple explosions. The truck, which was en route from Trichy to Ariyalur, lost balance while navigating a curve.

According to officials, the driver — identified as Kanagaraj — lost control of the vehicle, causing it to topple on its side. The impact led to friction-induced sparks, igniting one of the cylinders. The resulting blast set off a chain reaction, with several other cylinders exploding one after another.

Driver Injured, Blaze Under Control

Driver Kanagaraj sustained burn injuries and was rushed to the Ariyalur District Government Hospital for treatment.

District Collector Rathnasamy, along with the Superintendent of Police and Fire and Rescue Services, reached the spot immediately. Firefighters deployed multiple tenders to douse the flames and prevent further explosions.

Videos circulating online show thick plumes of smoke and loud explosions echoing across the area, while locals filmed the incident from a safe distance.

Authorities Cordon Off the Area

Officials have cordoned off the accident site as a precautionary measure and urged residents to stay away until the situation is fully contained.

Fire and rescue teams are continuing cooling operations to ensure no additional cylinders ignite. Authorities are also investigating the cause of the accident and assessing damage in the surrounding area.
