The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on October 21, 2025, on account of Diwali Lakshmi Puja, and again on October 22 for Balipratipada, according to the official trading calendar.

However, investors will still get a short opportunity to trade on Diwali day itself during the traditional Muhurat Trading session, a symbolic market ritual that marks the beginning of the Hindu financial year — Samvat 2082.

🕒 Muhurat Trading 2025: Timing and Details

The Muhurat Trading session will take place on October 21 from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM, with a modification window open till 2:55 PM. During this one-hour window, trading will be allowed across equities, futures and options (F&O), currency, and commodities.

This special session holds cultural and financial significance for investors who consider it an auspicious start to the new year, often performing Lakshmi Puja and lighting diyas before placing their first trades.

💹 Diwali: A Symbolic Start to the Financial Year

For decades, Diwali Muhurat Trading has blended spirituality and finance. Many investors make their first symbolic trade of the year during this period, believing it invites prosperity and good fortune. Brokerage offices are adorned with flowers and lamps, with brokers performing rituals to invoke Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings for a profitable year ahead.

📈 Market performance ahead of Diwali

In the lead-up to the festive week, Indian equity markets posted strong gains.

  • Sensex surged 1,451 points (1.76%) to close at 83,952.
  • Nifty 50 rose 1.68% to 25,709, marking its third consecutive weekly gain.

The rally was driven by steady demand, positive Q2 earnings, and moderating inflation, along with robust buying in banking, consumer, and realty stocks. The Bank Nifty hit a record high, led by private and PSU lenders, while IT and metals saw minor profit-booking.

🔮 What to expect in Samvat 2082

Analysts expect the new Samvat year to begin on an optimistic note. Upcoming earnings from HUL, Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI Life, Airtel, and ITC could set the tone for early trade trends.

Technically, Nifty’s breakout above 25,450 suggests potential upside toward 26,277, with support near 25,150. Bank Nifty’s next resistance levels are projected at 58,500 and 60,000, with support around 56,500.

Globally, investors will monitor US–China trade developments, inflation trends, and central bank policy signals to gauge foreign institutional inflows.

After the Diwali break, markets will also remain closed on November 5 (Prakash Gurpurab) and December 25 (Christmas).
