Authorities Review Uppalam Port Ground After TVK President Vijay Shifts Plan From Road Rally to Public Meeting
PUDUCHERRY: After the Puducherry administration denied permission for a road rally, TVK president and actor-politician Vijay is now expected to address a public meeting in the union territory on December 9.
In preparation, senior police officials conducted a detailed inspection of the proposed venue — Uppalam Port Ground — on Thursday evening.
Inspection Conducted by Senior Police Team
TVK leaders had earlier submitted a fresh petition to SSP R. Kalaivanan seeking approval to hold the public meeting at Uppalam Port Ground. Following this, DCP Sathiyasundaram and SSP Kalaivanan inspected the venue to assess:
- Stage arrangements
- Crowd management feasibility
- Safety measures
- Weather-related conditions
The ground was found to have stagnant rainwater, and officials noted the possibility of more rainfall, urging organisers to make necessary preparations.
Police Statement
Speaking to the media, DCP Sathiyasundaram said:
“We inspected the venue after receiving a petition. There is stagnant rainwater, and the weather forecast indicates chances of rain. We have advised the organisers to consider this. They will update us, and further decisions will be made after review.”
Final Decision Pending
The Puducherry police will issue final approval only after TVK organisers address:
- Waterlogging concerns
- Weather-related risks
- Safety logistics
A decision is expected soon as the December 9 event approaches.
