A tragic accident occurred in Mulund, northeast Mumbai, on Saturday afternoon when a portion of an under-construction Mumbai Metro rail pillar collapsed onto a busy stretch of LBS Road.

The incident, which took place around 12:20 pm opposite the Johnson & Johnson factory, resulted in the death of one person and left three to four others injured. According to officials, a cement slab from the metro pillar gave way and fell onto a passing autorickshaw, completely crushing the vehicle.

Emergency response teams, including the fire brigade, police personnel, and staff from the construction firm responsible for Metro Line 4, rushed to the site to carry out rescue and monitoring operations. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde visited the accident site and described the incident as a case of serious negligence. She pointed out that the parapet section of the structure had reportedly been installed just a day earlier and questioned whether proper safety protocols had been followed during the construction process. The mayor also raised concerns about why vehicular movement was allowed beneath the work zone at the time of installation.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse and to assess compliance with safety standards. Traffic on LBS Road was temporarily disrupted following the accident as rescue and clearance operations were underway.
