Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said that India and the United States are set to move closer to finalising a bilateral trade agreement, with a joint statement expected within the next four to five days.
Speaking on the progress of negotiations, Goyal said the formal trade deal, including all legal and procedural aspects, is likely to be signed by mid-March. He added that once the necessary executive order is issued, the agreement will trigger an 18% reduction in tariffs, providing a significant boost to trade between the two countries.
The minister’s remarks signal a key milestone in India–US trade relations, with the proposed agreement aimed at easing market access, reducing trade barriers, and strengthening economic cooperation between the two economies.
