Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that India has achieved a historic breakthrough in agricultural output, producing 357 million tonnes of foodgrains in 2025—the highest ever recorded. The Prime Minister made the announcement during the 128th episode of his monthly radio address, Mann Ki Baat.
PM Modi emphasized that India’s agricultural sector has seen dramatic growth over the past decade, with foodgrain output increasing by 100 million tonnes compared to ten years ago. He credited farmers, researchers, and the expansion of modern and natural farming techniques for this achievement.
“Historic Achievement for Indian Agriculture”
PM Modi said:
“India has achieved major success in the agriculture sector. Compared to 10 years ago, India’s foodgrain production has increased by 100 million tonnes. This year, our farmers have set a historic record by producing 357 million tonnes of foodgrains.”
He highlighted that such growth is a strong indicator of India’s progress toward agricultural self-reliance and food security.
Natural Farming Movement Gains Momentum
The Prime Minister also shared his experience from the Natural Farming Exhibition and South India Natural Farming Summit held recently in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
He said he was inspired by the growing number of educated young professionals adopting natural, chemical-free farming practices:
“I was deeply impressed by the efforts being made in South India to promote natural farming. Many young, highly qualified professionals are now embracing this field.”

During his Coimbatore visit, he interacted with farmers, reviewed agricultural innovations, and explored exhibitions on organic and natural farming methods.
