IMD Issues Rain Alert for 8 Tamil Nadu Districts as Post-Cyclone Ditwah Showers Continue

Tamil Nadu continues to experience widespread rainfall in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, with the IMD issuing a fresh rain and thunderstorm alert for eight districts across the state. Over the past ten days, northern regions—including Chennai—have recorded significant precipitation.

Heavy Rainfall Recorded Across Northern TN

Several regions received notable rainfall:

  • Uthukkottai (Tiruvallur): 9 cm — highest in the state
  • Stations in Chennai and Chengalpattu: 7 cm & 6 cm

Officials noted that an atmospheric low-level circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal is driving the current wet spell.

6-Day Forecast: More Rain Ahead for TN, Puducherry, Karaikal

The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall across Tamil Nadu for the next six days, from December 6 to 11.
Southern districts are also expected to receive intermittent showers.

Puducherry and Karaikal will experience similar rainfall patterns today, followed by scattered showers over the next five days.

Chennai Weather: Cloudy Day, Possible Thunderstorms

The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast:

  • Partly cloudy skies
  • Light to moderate rainfall in parts of the city
  • Possibility of thunder and lightning
  • Temperature expected to rise to 29–30°C, dropping to around 24°C

IMD Alert: Rain With Thunder & Lightning in 8 Districts

Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in the following districts until 10 AM today:

  • Coimbatore
  • Cuddalore
  • Mayiladuthurai
  • Nagapattinam
  • Theni
  • Nilgiris
  • Thiruvarur
  • Villupuram

Puducherry and Karaikal are also expected to see similar weather conditions.
