The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert, warning of widespread thunderstorms, rainfall, lightning, and strong winds across several regions in the coming days.
According to the latest bulletin, intensified weather activity is expected across eastern, central, and northeastern parts of the country, with risks of heavy rainfall, thundersqualls, and even hailstorms in some areas.
🌧️ Eastern and Northeastern Regions on High Alert
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to experience widespread rainfall from March 21 to 24, with isolated areas expected to receive heavy to very heavy showers. Strong winds reaching up to 80 kmph may accompany thunderstorms in Gangetic West Bengal.
Odisha is also likely to witness gusty winds of up to 70 kmph along with possible hailstorms. Meanwhile, northeastern states including Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms.
Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh may see isolated spells of heavy rainfall, particularly around March 24.
🌦️ Rain and Wind Activity in Central and Northern India
States such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh are forecast to receive scattered rainfall accompanied by gusty winds over the next few days.
Northwest India is set to witness a fresh wet spell, with light to moderate rainfall and snowfall expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is also likely to see widespread rainfall with wind speeds of up to 40 kmph.
🌆 Delhi Weather Update
IMD officials noted that Delhi has already experienced rainfall, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures. Intermittent showers are expected to continue in the short term, although the intensity is likely to reduce after a day.
Temperatures in the capital may dip slightly before gradually rising again as weather conditions stabilize.
⚠️ Orange Alert in Several States
The IMD has issued an “Orange Alert” for parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal. These areas may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds ranging between 60–70 kmph, which could pose potential risks to life and property.
🌴 Weather Outlook for Southern India
Southern states and parts of Maharashtra are also expected to receive scattered rainfall. However, hot and humid conditions may continue in regions such as Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Goa despite intermittent showers.
