Chennai Weather Update: Schools Reopen as Rainfall Continues Across Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu continues to remain under wet weather conditions as light to moderate rainfall persisted across several regions on Friday. After three consecutive days of holidays declared earlier this week due to heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, schools and colleges in Chennai and Tiruvallur districts have reopened today.
Cyclone Ditwah, which had significantly weakened after affecting Sri Lanka and Indonesia, turned into a deep depression near the Tamil Nadu coast earlier this week. The system settled along the shoreline and brought widespread rainfall over Chennai, delta regions, and interior districts. Notable rainfall figures included 23 cm in Manali New Town and 18.9 cm in Ennore.

The Chennai Meteorological Department reports that the depression has weakened further, but a new low-level circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea is likely to sustain rainfall across Tamil Nadu in the coming days.
