Actor Dulquer Salmaan has opened up about the advantages and expectations that come with being the son of Malayalam superstar Mammootty. In a recent interview, the Kaantha actor reflected on the privileges he has enjoyed and how they have influenced his choices in cinema.
“You don’t have to earn money for your sister’s wedding…”
Speaking to Cinema Vikatan, Dulquer recalled a candid moment with his father. Mammootty reminded him that unlike many actors, he does not face financial pressures.
Quoting his father, Dulquer said:
“You don’t have to earn money for your sister’s wedding or to build a house. I had to do that… Because of those responsibilities, I ended up doing some bad films. You don’t have that excuse.”
The actor explained that his family’s emotional and financial support has allowed him to take bold, creative decisions without worrying about survival.
“If I do a bad film, what justification can I give?” he added.
Privilege, Expectations & Public Perception
Dulquer acknowledged that audiences often see him as someone who comes from a privileged background. While that privilege offers comfort, he said it also comes with pressure to consistently perform well.
He believes that choosing strong scripts brings better films his way:
“If we keep following good films, good films will start following us.”
