Mumbai: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have officially announced the date and timings for Muhurat Trading 2025, a special one-hour trading session held annually on Diwali to mark the beginning of the new Hindu Samvat year. This year, the auspicious session will take place on October 21, 2025, coinciding with Diwali.

A Tradition That Blends Faith and Finance

Muhurat Trading is among the most revered traditions on Dalal Street, symbolizing prosperity, optimism, and new beginnings. The ritual, which dates back several decades, signifies the financial community’s faith in auspicious beginnings — as investors and traders believe that making trades during this period invites good fortune and wealth for the year ahead.

The trading floors on Diwali often turn festive, decorated with lights and filled with sweets, while brokers perform Lakshmi Puja to invoke the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity.

Festive Cheer on Dalal Street

Historically, the Sensex and Nifty have often ended in positive territory during Muhurat Trading, reflecting investor confidence and the festive mood across the country. Market participants view this session not merely as a trading opportunity, but as a symbol of renewal and hope for the coming financial year.

As the new Samvat year begins, Dalal Street looks forward to another chapter of growth, prosperity, and resilience in India’s financial journey.
