Amid nationwide chaos triggered by IndiGo’s large-scale operational failure, Congress MP Mallu Ravi has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, highlighting what he described as severe and “unprecedented disruptions” across India’s aviation network.
Ravi warned that the crisis—marked by more than 550 flight delays and cancellations—has exposed deep structural vulnerabilities within the aviation sector, particularly the risks of over-reliance on a single dominant private airline.
‘550+ Flights Hit, OTP Crashes to 19.7%’
In his letter, the Telangana MP expressed concern over IndiGo’s sharp drop in on-time performance to just 19.7% on December 3, leaving nearly 80% of flights delayed.
Major airports—Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and others—reported heavy congestion, long queues, distressed passengers, and confusion as airline operations spiraled.
“This incident has revealed serious vulnerabilities in the aviation ecosystem,” Ravi wrote, urging immediate corrective intervention from the government.
Warns of Monopolistic Risks
Ravi said the crisis reflects deeper issues in the sector, including:
- Overdependence on a single private airline
- Potential monopoly-like market conditions
- Operational irregularities
- Compromised service standards
He urged the government to retain and support multiple airlines under its oversight to ensure market competition and protect consumer interests.
Calls for Stronger Regulation and Preparedness
The Congress MP demanded:
- Stricter regulatory safeguards
- Better operational preparedness
- Accountability mechanisms for airlines
- Long-term stability measures for the aviation industry
“Without proactive intervention, similar crises may recur,” he warned.
Government Response: 24×7 Monitoring On
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said it is closely monitoring the situation round the clock.
An official statement on X (Twitter) noted:
- A control room is operating continuously
- Minister Ram Mohan Naidu personally reviewed the situation
- Real-time updates from all airports are being tracked
- Additional staff and resources are being mobilised
- Consolidated operational data is being shared with all airlines
The Ministry assured the public that restoring normalcy is its highest priority.
