China has called for urgent dialogue and restraint between Pakistan and Afghanistan following a major escalation in tensions triggered by deadly airstrikes in Kabul.
According to Afghan authorities, the strikes reportedly hit a drug rehabilitation facility, resulting in the deaths of around 400 people and leaving hundreds injured. The incident is being described as one of the most severe in the current phase of the conflict. Pakistan, however, has denied targeting civilian infrastructure, stating that its operations were aimed at militant groups.

This concern is particularly significant given China’s major investments in Pakistan through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as well as its broader strategic ambitions in South and Central Asia. Prolonged instability could disrupt critical infrastructure projects and hinder regional economic integration.
China also indicated its willingness to play a constructive role in easing tensions. While it stopped short of formally offering mediation, Beijing signalled that it is actively engaging through diplomatic channels to encourage de-escalation.
