BJP Slams Namaz at Bengaluru Airport, Questions Permission and Security Clearance

The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised strong objections to a video showing namaz being offered inside Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), calling it a “serious lapse” in airport security and demanding an official response from the state government.

Party spokesperson Vijay Prasad questioned how religious activity was permitted within a high-security airport terminal, alleging double standards by the ruling Congress government.

“Did these individuals obtain prior permission to offer Namaz in a high-security airport zone? Why is it that the government objects when the RSS conducts Patha Sanchalana after obtaining permission, but turns a blind eye to such activities in restricted areas?” Prasad posted on X (formerly Twitter).

He also tagged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and IT Minister Priyank Kharge, demanding immediate clarification and action from the state administration.

Security and Political Concerns

The BJP leader termed the act a potential security concern, noting that airports are considered sensitive public zones governed by strict access and activity rules. He shared both a photo and a video of the alleged incident, which he claimed occurred at Terminal 2 of the Bengaluru airport.

“Does this not pose a serious security risk in such a sensitive zone?” Prasad wrote, adding that the government must ensure equal enforcement of rules for all groups.

While the video has sparked debate on social media, there has been no official statement yet from the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) or state authorities regarding the incident or its context.

Background

The Kempegowda International Airport, one of India’s busiest, maintains heightened security protocols managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Any gatherings or public performances within terminal areas typically require prior approval from airport authorities.

The BJP’s criticism adds to a growing political discourse in Karnataka over religious expression in public spaces, with opposition parties accusing the government of selective enforcement.

Further clarification from the state police or airport management is awaited to confirm whether permission was sought or granted for the activity.
