Bengaluru is set for one of the biggest infrastructure overhauls in its history, with Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announcing projects worth over ₹1 lakh crore aimed at reshaping the city’s mobility, technology, and urban ecosystem.

Speaking at the 28th Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025, Shivakumar described Bengaluru as a “constantly evolving powerhouse” and highlighted the government’s aggressive push to upgrade the city’s physical and digital backbone to keep pace with its growing tech economy.

🚇 Massive Infrastructure Projects Underway

Shivakumar detailed several ongoing and proposed mega projects, including:

🔹 40 km Twin Tunnel Network – ₹42,500 crore

One of India’s most ambitious underground mobility systems designed to ease congestion in central Bengaluru.

🔹 41 km Double-Decker Metro – ₹18,000 crore

A multi-level metro line combining rail and road transit to improve east-west connectivity.

🔹 110 km Elevated Corridors – ₹15,000 crore

A citywide network of high-speed corridors to bypass traffic bottlenecks.

🔹 320 km Buffer Roads – ₹5,000 crore

Upgraded roads built along the edges of forest and defense areas to reduce load on existing highways.

🔹 SkyDeck Tower – ₹500 crore

A 250-metre-tall observation deck offering a 360-degree panoramic view of Bengaluru.

🔹 Bengaluru Business Corridor – ₹27,000 crore

A high-speed mobility and development corridor linking Tumakuru Road and Mysuru Road via Yelahanka and Electronic City.

🏙️ What is the SkyDeck Project?

The Bengaluru SkyDeck will serve as a landmark viewing tower, similar to international observation decks in Tokyo or Toronto. Built on KIADB land, it is expected to become a major tourist attraction and city identity symbol.

🏢 What is the Bengaluru Business Corridor?

Designed to drastically reduce travel time across the metropolis, the corridor will connect major districts such as Yelahanka, Peenya, Electronic City, and Kengeri. Officials say it will help redistribute traffic and support new urban growth zones.

✈️ Bengaluru’s Second Airport in the Works

With Kempegowda International Airport restricted from facing competition until 2033, the government has already shortlisted three sites for a second airport:

  • Near Kaggalipura (Kanakapura Road)
  • Near Harohalli
  • On Kunigal Road (North Bengaluru)

Large airport projects typically require 5–6 years, prompting early planning to meet future demand.

🤖 Bengaluru’s New ‘AI City’ – A 9,000-Acre Future Township

Shivakumar announced plans for a 9,000-acre integrated “AI City” near Bidadi, featuring:

  • 2,000 acres dedicated to AI industries
  • Residential, commercial, and entertainment zones
  • A second Central Business District (CBD)
  • “Work-live-play” ecosystem
  • Local-first hiring policy to generate lakhs of jobs

An NRI Secretariat will also be established to support global investors and diaspora professionals.

🏗️ A Transformation Fueled by Over ₹1 Lakh Crore

Shivakumar emphasised that these projects collectively reflect the state’s largest-ever investment focused entirely on Bengaluru’s infrastructure.

“This is the Bengaluru we imagine for the next generation—a global innovation capital with world-class infrastructure,” he said.
