Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is gearing up to launch the city’s longest-ever Namma Metro corridor, stretching nearly 72 kilometres and connecting more than 50 stations, including a spur line to the upcoming international sports complex in Anekal.
According to a Deccan Herald report, the ambitious line will connect Kalena Agrahara on Bannerghatta Road to Kadugodi Tree Park near Whitefield, creating one of India’s most extensive intra-city metro networks once completed.
🚇 Bengaluru’s Largest Metro Line: Station Network
The proposed line is expected to connect several key residential and commercial hubs across the southern and eastern zones of the city. Some of the major stations include:
- Bannerghatta
- Jigani
- Attibele
- Sarjapur
- Dommasandra Circle
- Varthur Kodi
In addition, a 3.5 to 4 km spur line will link commuters directly to Anekal’s upcoming international sports complex, enhancing last-mile accessibility in the city’s southern belt.
🏗️ Longest Corridor Details
The 72 km corridor will consist of a mix of underground and elevated sections.
Unlike the city’s earlier metro stretches, the stations will be spaced farther apart, as many of the areas along this corridor are still in the early stages of urban development.
This project is part of BMRCL’s Phase 3 expansion, which aims to expand the total Bengaluru Metro network to 467.69 km, transforming public transport connectivity across the metropolitan region.
🔧 What’s Next: Phase 3A Work to Begin Soon
BMRCL has also confirmed that preliminary work for Phase 3A will commence in the coming months. This parallel project will link Sarjapur in the southeast to Hebbal in the north, passing through Bengaluru’s city centre, and is expected to dramatically reduce travel times between some of the city’s busiest zones.
Officials say that the upcoming metro expansion will:
- Ease traffic congestion across key corridors,
- Enhance regional mobility, and
- Boost economic activity by improving access to business and residential hubs.
🌆 Why It Matters for Bengaluru
Once complete, the new line will not only be Bengaluru’s longest metro route but also one of the most strategically important in India.
The route will cover fast-growing suburbs, provide better east–west and south–north connectivity, and support the city’s booming tech and residential corridors — making daily commuting faster, cleaner, and more efficient.
Summary:
Bengaluru’s Namma Metro network is set for a major leap with the proposed 72 km corridor linking Bannerghatta Road to Whitefield via Sarjapur and Attibele, along with a spur line to Anekal’s sports hub. With Phase 3A work expected to begin soon, the city’s total metro network will expand to 467 km, making Bengaluru one of the best-connected urban centres in India.
