A 23-year-old software engineer, Sukruth Gowda, has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly attempting to murder a couple and their young son after a traffic dispute over a free-left turn. The incident occurred on October 26 near MS Ramaiah Hospital Junction on New BEL Road and was initially believed to be a hit-and-run. However, police later confirmed it was a deliberate attack.
CCTV Footage Shows Intentional Ramming
The shocking incident was captured on CCTV. The video shows Sukruth overtaking the family’s scooter from the left, brushing it, and then intentionally ramming the vehicle, causing the couple and their child to fall and suffer injuries.
Victims Ankita Patel and her son were treated and discharged, while her husband, Vineet Patel, required further treatment at St. John’s Hospital.
Accused Confessed to the Crime
After reviewing multiple CCTV recordings and conducting a detailed investigation, police traced the vehicle, identified Sukruth, and arrested him on November 8. During interrogation, he confessed to deliberately hitting the family because they had blocked his free-left turn.
He has been remanded to judicial custody.
Police Statement on the Incident
Bengaluru Police confirmed that the act was intentional and posed a “serious threat” to public safety.
The official statement noted:
“The inquiry confirmed that the accused intentionally created a public disturbance and endangered safety. Legal action has been initiated.”
What Sparked the Incident?
The dispute began when the couple’s scooter accidentally blocked the free-left signal. Enraged, Sukruth chased the scooter, overtook them, and rammed them from the side, turning a minor traffic inconvenience into a dangerous and life-threatening attack.
