Bengaluru Station Chaos: Passengers Pull Alarm Chain, Clash With RPF on Goa-Bound Train

A brief spell of chaos unfolded at Yeshwantpur railway station on Monday evening after a group of passengers pulled the emergency alarm chain on a Goa-bound train and allegedly assaulted Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel who attempted to intervene.

The incident took place around 3 pm on the Yeshwantpur–Vasco da Gama Express, after an alarm chain was pulled from the S3 coach. RPF personnel stationed on the platform rushed to the spot following the alert.

According to railway officials, the group—comprising 14 youngsters from Bengaluru—pulled the chain in an attempt to stop the train so that their friends, who had arrived late, could board. When RPF personnel tried to detain them for violating railway safety rules, the group allegedly turned aggressive and attacked the officers.

“We have arrested three individuals so far, and a case has been registered under the Government Railway Police (GRP) Act, 1989, and the Railways Act, 1989, for unnecessary pulling of the alarm chain,” said Shreyans Chinchawade, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF. He added that the group was travelling to Goa.

RPF officials said additional personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control. One RPF officer sustained a minor injury during the scuffle and was given medical treatment.

The Government Railway Police suspect that the passengers involved may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, though medical confirmation is still awaited.

Railway authorities reiterated that misuse of the alarm chain is a punishable offence and warned passengers against endangering safety and disrupting train operations.
