To handle the Diwali 2025 festive rush and ensure safe travel, the South Western Railway (SWR) has announced a series of special trains between Bengaluru and Chennai. Meanwhile, Southern Railway has also issued a strict safety advisory banning passengers from carrying firecrackers or other flammable materials on trains during the festive season.
Bengaluru–Chennai Diwali Special Train Schedule
The SWR said the additional trains aim to ease congestion and accommodate increased demand during Diwali.
Train No. 06255 will operate from KSR Bengaluru to Chennai Central on October 18, 21, and 25, departing at 8:05 AM and reaching Chennai at 2:45 PM the same day.
Return Train No. 06256 will run from Chennai Central to KSR Bengaluru on the same dates — October 18, 21, and 25 — leaving at 4:30 PM and arriving in Bengaluru at 10:45 PM.
These special services will halt at key stations, including:
- Yeshwanthpur
- K.R. Puram
- Bangarapet
- Jolarpettai
- Katpadi
- Arakkonam
- Tiruvallur
- Perambur
This ensures wide coverage for passengers traveling between the two metro cities and nearby regions during the festive period.
Southern Railway’s Firecracker Ban and Safety Warning
In parallel with the festive travel rush, Southern Railway has reinforced its ban on carrying firecrackers, petrol, diesel, or other inflammable items on trains.
Officials warned that even a small spark can lead to major accidents, emphasizing that such items are strictly prohibited under the Railway Act.
A joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) is conducting awareness campaigns at major stations, including luggage inspections, poster displays, and public announcements.
Penalties for Violations
Passengers caught carrying flammable materials face severe penalties:
- First offence: Fine up to ₹1,000 or imprisonment up to 6 months.
- Repeat offence: Fine up to ₹5,000 or imprisonment up to 3 years.
Authorities urged passengers to report suspicious activities by calling the Railway Security Helpline (139 or 182).
Railways’ Festive Preparedness
With passenger numbers expected to surge across southern India during Diwali, the railway departments are focusing on both capacity enhancement and safety enforcement. These measures aim to ensure smooth, secure, and punctual operations during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
