Bengaluru: Panic gripped commuters near Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday after a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus went out of control and rammed into nine vehicles, including cars, autorickshaws, and two-wheelers.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the bus driver suffered a sudden epileptic seizure while driving, causing him to accidentally press the accelerator instead of the brakes. The vehicle then sped uncontrollably through the busy stretch, colliding with multiple vehicles before coming to a halt.

CCTV footage from the area shows the driver collapsing moments before the crash, while the bus conductor can be seen attempting to steer and stop the bus, but in vain. The impact caused significant damage to several parked vehicles and left bystanders in shock.

Police officials said one autorickshaw driver sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Other motorists and pedestrians reportedly escaped with minor injuries.

Following the incident, the Cubbon Park Traffic Police detained the bus driver for medical examination and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Preliminary findings suggest the driver had a history of medical issues, though an official confirmation is awaited.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events and assess if any mechanical failure contributed to the accident.

The BMTC has assured that compensation and support will be provided to those injured and affected by the mishap.
