Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has delivered a sharp political warning to actor-politician ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay, cautioning him that turning opposition to the BJP into his primary political strategy could lead to a “Prashant Kishor–like fate” in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
The remarks were made during a press interaction and have escalated political tensions in the state as parties gear up for the next major electoral battle.
Comparing Vijay to Prashant Kishor
Annamalai invoked the recent Bihar election outcome, where strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party failed to secure a single seat and lost deposits in all 238 constituencies it contested.
“P.K., who has been constantly criticizing the BJP, has been defeated in a very bad way,” Annamalai said, suggesting Vijay could face a similar defeat if he adopts a solely anti-BJP political stance.
He also questioned Vijay’s decision to involve Kishor as an advisor for the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), arguing that relying on someone whose own party suffered a “crushing defeat” was illogical.
“Opposing BJP Is Not a Political Business”
Annamalai accused Vijay and his party of making it their primary mission to oppose the BJP rather than presenting constructive plans for Tamil Nadu.
“If you only make opposition to the BJP your business, you will face defeat,” he warned.
Referring to the ongoing Special Intensive Voter List Revision (SIR) process, Annamalai alleged that Vijay was wrongly linking a routine Election Commission exercise to BJP influence, calling it “misleading politics.”
He added that voters expect development-oriented agendas, not a party whose identity is built purely on opposing another political force.
Context: The Bihar Verdict
The warning also reflects the broader political lesson emerging from the Bihar polls, where the NDA won 202 seats, signaling that new or untested parties struggle to win voter trust without strong grassroots work or credible governance agendas.
Annamalai emphasized that Tamil Nadu voters, like those in Bihar, will reject parties perceived as reactionary or solely opposition-driven.
