In a move aimed at supporting exporters during ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Indian government has announced a 15-day waiver on port charges at Mundra Port for export containers bound for the Middle East.
The decision was revealed during an inter-ministerial briefing by Rajesh Sinha, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Shipping. He stated that the waiver is intended to ease logistical challenges, reduce operational costs, and ensure uninterrupted trade flows despite regional disruptions.
Meanwhile, diplomatic engagement continues at the highest level. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a discussion with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar, where both leaders emphasised the importance of keeping global shipping routes secure and operational, particularly in light of the evolving situation in West Asia.
Addressing public concerns, government officials assured that there is no disruption in fuel availability across the country. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, confirmed that domestic refineries have adequate crude oil supplies and that fuel distribution networks remain stable. She also clarified that there has been no increase in petrol or diesel prices.
To prevent supply irregularities, oil marketing companies are conducting surprise inspections across regions. Enforcement agencies have also seized approximately 2,000 LPG cylinders in recent raids as part of efforts to curb malpractices.
On the domestic front, officials stated that LPG distribution remains steady, with no shortages reported at agencies. Around 92% of LPG bookings are now processed online, and despite a rise in demand, deliveries continue without major delays. Special emphasis is being placed on providing 5-kg LPG cylinders to migrant workers and ensuring priority for PNG connections.
Additionally, in Delhi, authorities have temporarily waived road restoration charges to facilitate faster infrastructure-related works.
The government reiterated that comprehensive measures are in place to maintain stability in fuel supplies, support exporters, and safeguard economic activity. Officials also urged citizens and businesses to avoid panic, assuring that the situation remains under control despite global uncertainties.
